Detailed Information
Aim & Scope

Established in 1984, the American Journal of Islam and Society (AJIS) is an open-access, biannual, double-blind peer-reviewed, and interdisciplinary journal with global reach, published by the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), and distributed worldwide.

In 2020, the journal was renamed from the previous American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences to reflect the evolution of the scholarly landscape and a global community of readers interested in a wider range of topics pertaining to Islam’s role in society. The new name embodies an expanded scope for the Journal and reflects that the social sciences and humanities are interrelated and that Islamic engagement with one requires an examination of the other. The Journal, therefore, welcomes all scholarship pertaining to the myriad ways in which Islam and varied human societies interact.
