ABSTRACT

This study was embarked upon with the purpose of gathering information about the impact of corporate social responsibility of organization. The objective of this research therefore is to help the manufacturing organization appraise the extent to which they are socially responsible.. during the course of this research, primary and secondary were the sources of information. There were also some findings like the socially oriented activities does not reduce the organizational goal of profit maximization.

 CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1.         BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

The objective of any business is only attainable when it is able to thrive with its environment. Though the arm of setting up a business is mainly to make profit, its survival depends on doing things that are compatible with its environment. Most larger companies have accepted the challenge that they have an obligation to the society in which they operate. In this connection, relentless efforts are being intensities by companies to improve the standard of living of the host community. In other words, the management of the companies is aware of the role that their company has to play in providing for the well being of the society. This may reflect itself in many ways. They include; the formation of employment policies that avoid exploitation and restriction of individual rights, investment policies that take account of the effect of corporate activity on the physical environment.

Provision of infrastructural facilities to the host communities in particular and society in general. Such facilities include potable water, roads, school, hospital, electricity, etc.

There are also the need for a company to support education through direct financial aid to school in the community which it is sited, it also help the employees for further training and development which is important in the sense that better output is ensured. It is the responsibility of a business to ensure that it makes a fair return on investment of its shareholders as well as furnishing them with up to date information about the operation of the business. It is also the responsibility of the manager to ensure effective utilization of resources entrusted to him. Business can contribute to the betterment of the nations standard of living through earning and profits, this will lead to more people spending much money on more things. Other contribution is through cost reduction and consequent lowering it price to the customers.

On the part of the employees business organization should strive to get the corporate of its worker by providing a good working environment and condition of services, respect their right education. The business should accord recognition to the worker union.

The enterprise should evolve a good grievance settlement mechanism, fair promotion of workers and adequate social.

1.2.          STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The social responsibilities are always known to be function of the management in establishing the policies of the company. Its well known fact that every organization is being established for profit and all stakeholders are not interest in corporate social responsibility other that profit, ideally efforts shall be made to balance up the two parallel lines in order to avoid rumpus in the organization/community.

Although this ailment had been facing this company. i.e. (coca-cola bottling company plc, Benin Branch) for years back. It’s not ordinary easy for someone to trespass your terra firma without interrupt.

Synonymously the like problem that is often come by in trespassing some one’s environment shall be as well as proffered in later chapter.

1.3.         RESEARCH QUESTION

  1. Is corporate social responsibility the price a business must pay for economic success?
  2. Does the government status and labour laws restrict companies from being socially responsible?
  3. Is the company supposed to be socially responsibility to the community?
  4. Is payment of tax by organization their own way of contribution to the welfare of the society?
  5. Does the community contribute in any way to the success of the company?

There is no significant relationship between the organizations and its environment.

1.5.         PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

          This project will be useful to business organization to appraise the extent to their responsibility to the communities in which they operate, also(state and federal) including students who may need the work for further research.

          There have been a number of studies on the corporate on the social responsibility (CSR) in Nigeria, most of which have mainly focused on multinational firms and on indigenous firms.

          This project also seeks to contribute to merger literature on corporate social responsibility in developing economics by providing a Nigeria prospective of corporate social  responsibility with reference to the Nigeria bottling company PLC.

1.6.         SCOPE OF THE STUDY

     In this project the researcher is limited to corporate social responsibility in Nigeria bottling company PLC.

1.7.         SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY

     Although, this topic of research work is been significant to people of the community and insignificant to the management for having been drained off of capital or profit. It will help in no small way to the community. By creating awareness in them, training centre establisher and vis-à-vis scholarship and tertiary institutions. Social responsibilities have been a yardstick that accurately elevated economical and political activities in the community.
